Page 22 (L)

22.1 SC and Skipper getting on the raft.

SC - “Skipper coming through as always. Thanks.”

SK - “Cut the crap Claws, I almost got killed because of you.”

SK - “I know you’re not just here to collect your lame weapon. What do you want from me.”

SC - “I need you to get me out of here.”

SK - “1000 taels of gold on your head, what makes you think I’m not working for her?”

SC - “Ha! I know you, you got too much pride to work for anyone, let alone that witch.

“Besides, you owe me.”

“Yea yea, big talker, buy me a new ship first…”

Closing Panel - 2 of them on the raft in the background. In the foreground the ruined ship of the Skipper.

END.

Breakdown

The goal of this page was to establish the relationship of SC and Skipper, to let the readers know that these two have a history and are friends that have been on certain adventures before. Also to match the heavy dialogue, another goal was to keep the shots interesting with different angles, some humor and a wide landscape shot to end off the page and the book. As you can see from the thumbnails in panel 4, there is a pretty big panel with SC and this is where we see him vulnerable for the first time. He is asking for help, for Skipper to get him out of the place. Hopefully this gives his character an extra dimension. He does need help to survive even though he is supposedly powerful. In fact, I've been racking my brains on how to give him challenges yet maintaining his super powerful status that I may have gone too far with in Book 1.

The final dialogue does change a bit and more is added on to create some banter in the last panel. The wide shot. with them drifting away into the distance was inspired by one of the images I picked up as reference when doing research.

Beautiful right? Needless to say I didn't really pull it off in the final result but oh well.

And with that, the last page of Book 3 is done, and moving on to the next one. At the date that this post is created, I'm halfway through the layouts of Book 4 already. More on that in the next post!
